Description

Britain's Andy Cooper, who made his name with the Kenny Ball Band, formed his own ensemble, the Andy Cooper's Euro Top 8, in 1996. The clarinettist and singer has gathered around him eight mainstream virtuosos from Belgium, Germany, England, Scotland and Sweden. Andy and his bandmates were one of the high points of Germany's Hot Jazz Festival 2002 in Europapark Rust. Whether it's dixieland, blues, jump and jive or modern swing - Andy Cooper's Euro Top 8 put their very own stamp on every song, love to improvise and guarantee top-class, old-fashioned entertainment.

When Andy Cooper gathered seven colleagues from Europe around him as the Top 8 in December 1996, it was intended as a one-off for a concert in Gelsenkirchen. The performance was a huge success. So what was more logical than to send the band, now known as Andy Cooper's Euro Top 8, onto a short tour of Europe - which is still going on today...

Andy Cooper is a virtuoso: Anyone who has seen him live will never forget that experience. Cooper dances, sings, rolls his eyes and coaxes virtuoso sounds from his clarinet or gets it to snort like an A-train.

... If It Ain't Got That Swing was Duke Ellington's motto, and Andy Cooper's Euro Top 8 have adopted it. The best example is this recording Live At Europapark Rust 2002. The octet served up dixieland, mainstream and jump & jive at the highes level for a delighted audience, and added occasional blues classics like the Saga of the legendary C.C. Rider in a completely new format. The result is Swing that is powerfully formulated.

What did Andy Cooper say so fittingly: "Music should be fun. That is what I stand for and transfer to the audience. I don't want anyone to be bored".
