Description

Co-produced by Gabrielle Roth, Robert Ansell and Scott Ansell, BARDO differs from the 15 previous recordings by Gabrielle Roth & The Mirrors in that it prominently features vocalizations by Boris Grebenshikov [commonly dubbed "Russia's other (John) Lennon"] in a language never before heard. Such "utterings of the soul" have long been considered by mystics to be the purest form of communication, a direct sharing of raw emotion and unfettered thought untainted by cultural or time-period prejudices. While such speaking in "tongues" has become a rare occurrence in 21st-century society, according to Buddhist philosophy it harkens back to the original "nada" (or seed sound) that created our universe (commonly referred to today as "the big bang").

The transcendental, hypnotic music and unique "words" on BARDO can help listeners begin to reawaken their hidden selves and experience life in a new way; it can open up realms of possibility by changing consciousness, allowing one to enter a full body state of awakened meditation. As Kalu Ripoche says, "It is in the BARDO of our present lives that we can make the most progress in developing the ability to deal effectively with all the others."

BARDO features an incredible collection of singers like Deva Premal and Miten, Laur Fugere, Reza Derakshani, Mindy Jostyn and Catherine Russell as well as critically-acclaimed musicians such as Mark Egan, Cyro Baptista, Rocky Bryant, Sanga of the Valley, David Sancious and others who have performed and recorded with Sting, Herbie Hancock, Cirque Du Soleil, Rusted Root, Paul Simon, Mickey Hart, Jai Uttal, Bob Dylan, Santana and many more.

Gabrielle Roth & The Mirrors fans will see BARDO as a natural extrapolation from the group's bestselling REFUGE album, which has been called "a feast for the ears and the spirit" by Rhythm Magazine and "some of the deepest and most profound music ever released" by Musical Soundscapes.
