Description

Award-winning Celtic instrumentalists (flute, concertina, banjo, bouzouki, fiddle and guitar), also drawing on influences from across Europe.

Silver Arm is the exceptional ensemble where personnel changes just keep the band more interesting as here again they pull out their polishing cloth and give a sheen and a ring of pure sterling to traditional Celtic dance tunes and songs. Not only that, but the new Silver Arm CD "Links" flows in what seems an effortless effort on the part of the four members of this Ohio-Kentucky based Celtic band, guaranteed to keep them close to the hearts of the community that loves their music and win new fans as well.

Youthful fiddler Justin Bridges, a frequest visitor to Ireland and a student of the West Clare style, shows an affinity for the older players such as Bobby Casey and Junior Crehan which suggests one of those magical connections between cultures half a world away. Internationally acclaimed painter of Celtic images, Cindy Matyi, interlaces her flute, concertina and vocal contributions like Celtic knots through the strong rhythms of her passionate counterpart, Stephen Matyi, whose Hungarian and Czech roots have always given Silver Arm its characteristic emotional flair. Finger-style guitar virtuoso, John Sherman, who recently received a glowing review from "Paste" magazine for his solo recording, "Far Green Country", offers tasteful accompaniment and fine traditional singing to complete this varied and delightful recording.

"Links" was recorded by the talented David Archer at Last Riff Studio and mastered by one of the major figures of Irish traditional music, Grey Larsen.

The Silver Arm CD "Links" flows in what seems an effortless effort on the part of the four members of this popular Ohio-Kentucky based Celtic band, guaranteed to keep them close to the hearts of the community that loves their music and win new fans as well.

Reviews

"The four lead their listeners through songs, reels, jigs and polkas, Celtic tunes learned from books and sessions, a seafaring tale from Newfoundland and a jig written by a Swede." Paste Magazine

"This is old time craftsmanship- no screaming guitars or complicated setups here. It is also an eminently listenable and enjoyable CD if you want to hear music that is not out to make a point except the enjoyment of an art and a craft well done. .....Silver Arm has a style that doesn't swamp your senses, but makes you feel serene. It is a much needed voice in the Celtic music of today.....

"The art on the CD sleeve of Celtic interlace links is by Silver Arm's Cindy Matyi - an excellent visual expression of the continuity of the music herein... " Celtic Beat Magazine
