Description

This project began as a jam session with Irish guitarist Mike Nielsen and myself that we put down to two track. We were so pleased with some of the tracks i.e. Little Wing , Angel and Morning that we decided to go into R.T.E. studios in Dublin Ireland, add some sax and do a full cd. The rest of the tunes were done on multi track hence the sound descrepancy. But through mixing and mastering I think we got a pretty good match. We hope you enjoy it!

Artist Profile
Emotionally charged vocal jazz leaning on improvisation.

Ellen Demos was born and raised in Boston Massachusettes. She began to sing at an early age and her early education included formal training in voice and classical piano. She made a leap from her classical studies, finding she didn't really have the temperament for the classics, to a mixture of blues and jazz which in her early twenties led to informal jamming and performing with various jazz and ethnic ensembles in the Cambridge, Mass. area. This included exposure to Indian music both classical and fusion and African drumming and dance. She later became interested in Brazilian music and worked in the New England area fusing jazz and Brazilian influences. She was also involved in improvisational theater at this time. Ellen moved to Los Angeles in 1979 and continued her studies in vocal technique and composition and arranging. During this time she was also active in the recording industry doing commercial work and private projects. She also performed with big bands and small ensembles and formed the Brazilian/Jazz band, Pastoria, with saxophonist Mike McMullen. It was via this liason that Ellen made the move to Europe.

Since then Ellen has appeared in concert in Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland and England. She has done work for radio and television. In Denmark she has worked as a soloist for the Danish Light Music Orchestra. In Ireland she has appeared with her own Jazz ensembles on both radio and television and has been a featured soloist with the Irish radio (RTE) Orchestra. Ellen has also been featured at both the Cork and Dublin International Jazz Festivals and the Bray Jazz festival. She has toured Portugal, France, Germany, England and Ireland with her own ensembles. On the educational scene, Ellen has participated in workshops at local clubs and Jazz festivals. She also teaches privately.
