Description

Eft takes its name from a crimson-colored, land-dwelling, adolescent newt that lives in the woods of central New York. Their debut album "Parallel Time" features a powerful interplay of vocals and saxophone against a rich rhythmic background. Joy, rage, fear and hope weave through these songs stories and meditations of emotional complexity and depth. Linda's saxophone echoes, punctuates, and tests Mary Beth's vocals, while John's guitar and David and Craig's dual percussion rhythmically drive the whole. Haunting, provocative, soothing, "Parallel Time" takes the listener through an extraordinary emotional landscape.

Testimonials
"A mellow folk jazzy mix with full orchestration...Clear vocals and lyrics give an almost show tune theatrical quality to the sound. Great music for the easier listening or the relaxing times." -Enzyme (Detroit)

"Pop-jazz, with a slice of classical thrown in for good measure...eleven insightful and provoking poems set to music." -Kollage (Philadelphia)

"A startling collection of rock, jazz and folk that ranges from the subdued to the theatrical." -Cornell Sun (Ithaca)

"Restrained in feel, occasionally joyous in tone, and very nicely put together. Interesting and atypical." -Music Press (Binghamton)

Artist Profile
Eft blends musical genres to produce a unique, sophisticated sound. Eft performs at coffeehouses, clubs and festivals in the central New York region, and Eft has had airplay in Europe and on adult alternative radio closer to home. The members of Eft collectively have over fifty years of musical experience. John and Mary Beth, who have played music together professionally since 1979, formed the group in 1991 with percussionist David, and Craig and Linda joined shortly thereafter. John is a classically trained guitarist and composer; Mary Beth is a classically trained singer and long-time folksinger/songwriter; Linda is a jazz saxophonist with extensive big band and combo experience; Craig is equally at home in rock and jazz; and David is trained in traditional Caribbean conga rhythms.
