Description

TRAVELS WITHIN was recorded in 2000 and released that same year. The title reflects that while one may travel in the physical sense, the impression of a place or moment is retained in the heart and mind of the traveler. The songs each invoke a mood of a place or time.

Escape from Toil was composed on Labor Day and suggests a desire to escape daily drudgery.

Code Word: Mexico suggests a Latin atmosphere or siesta.

Ghostly Graveyard creates an errie mood as in a tree laden graveyard.

The Sound Train is more or less a tip of the hat to German group Kraftwerk.

Fifty Years of Childhood utilizes some toy instruments and features a childlike march.

Karma in Parma and Sacred Snake Dance are Americanized Hindu grooves and utilize an electric sitar.

Biological Turbulence is the closest thing to techno music. It features an electronic pulse, acoustic drums, and a heavy metal type of guitar sound. It suggests a journey into an aching body.

Artist Profile
Smiling Eye is a one man project created by Larry M. Smiley for the purpose of recording and releasing original electronic compositions.

Larry originally released a 45 rpm on Bizart records. It was distributed by the now defunct JCOA in New York City. He released the record and home recorded tapes under the name Smiley. Upon discovering that disco singer was also using this name he decided to use the name Smiling Eye for current releases.

The music is influenced by Tangerine Dream (Germany), Brian Eno (England) and Jean Michael Jarre (France) to name a few, who create music that is a cross synthesis of music styles and techniques, but retain a flavor of their home country. Larry creates music that is a combination of electronic and amplified acoustic sounds that filter through the fabric of his personality.
