Description

Gentle, playful, and powerful, Worlds Apart celebrates friendship and creativity with a long-distance collaboration between Jeff Hall (keope) and three other artists. Over the course of ten months, the artists exchanged data disks, DAT tapes, and packages of equipment, allowing them to work together despite their geographic differences.

Worlds Apart features an eclectic but delightful blend of ballad, poetry, impressionism, and Latin fusion, and has been described by its listeners as "playful and fresh" (James Dougherty), "an enjoyable return to the world of childhood, tempered...by a somewhat darker, more adult sensibility" (Tracy T.), and "raw, down to earth, honest to goodness, love among men - displayed through music" (Ron Wallace).

Testimonials
"Jeff's approach is playful and fresh... Keope has a refreshing gift and uses his music and 'Worlds Apart' to share it with us." -James Dougherty, AfterTouch Volumes 9 & 10

"[Keope's music] is certainly his joy-filled gift in this stressed-out, overbearing society we can find ourselves a part of." --Greg Farina, AfterTouch Volumes 7 & 8

When I first began the Creative Musicians Coalition (CMC), I had a dream that I could bring artists together to share and learn from each other, in the hope that together as a group, we could benefit individually... I think Worlds Apart, in its way, was born of the same dream... These newfound friends were giving of themselves to make a whole that was better than their individual parts." -Ron Wallace

Artist Profile
keope (Jeff) - Jeff's musical career began with a job as the audio engineer of his church, where he was able to work with a variety of singers and musicians, inspiring him to produce recordings of his own work. He started his first project with a Hawaiian vacation still fresh in his mind, and adapted his name's Hawaiian phonetic into "keope." Since then, he has produced ten albums, including "Rejoice! and Be Thankful!" (a collaboration with Sally Daley) and "Two Hearts, One Rhythm" (featuring Renee Carter Hall). He and his wife live in northern Virginia, where he is currently at work on his next project.

Renee Carter - Renee was sixteen when Worlds Apart was being created, and as Jeff's pen pal, she was welcomed into the project despite not being an actual musician (unless you count a few clarinet lessons in elementary school). Instead, she provided spoken word and the album's cover artwork, along with written lyrics for the ballad "Friends." Renee and Jeff's friendship deepened over the next several months, and three years later they were married. Now, as Renee Carter Hall, she is best known for her poetry and fiction, and has self-published several collections of her work.

Sally Daley, QM - Sally was the first artist to come on board for Worlds Apart, and through her discussions with Jeff, the album's concept was born. A prolific composer of liturgical French Impressionist music, she serves as organist and music minister at Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Chicago. Her most recent album, "Collages for the Liturgical Year," is a musical journey of faith and celebration.

Scott R. Garrigus - Although Scott contributed spoken word (including an original poem) for Worlds Apart, his own album "Pieces of Imagination" was released in 1993 to many favorable reviews. His articles have been published in music and recording magazines, and he has authored several instructional books for electronic musicians. Scott lives in Connecticut, where he is busy transforming one floor of his home into an office and music studio.
