Description

It is the song that drives this artist. Never bound by "formula", Joi's style has exploded through his gravitation to the guitar as his main songwriting tool. His drumming background has given him a keen awareness of rhythm and percussion that bubbles beneath his signature vocals delivering waves of fluid melody. There is a splash of "world beat" flavor countering and fusing the ever-present rock electric and acoustic guitars.

The human experience is his most fascinating palette. The interaction and perspective of people are the substance of his lyrics which are woven through the fabric of infectious melodies. Whether a simple statement of emotion or a testimonial to Joi's life experiences, the result is a brutally honest song written and delivered with conviction as an extension of himself. Joi constantly dares and redefines his artistic license. His songs are conceptually, lyrically and musically engaging in their dynamics.

Testimonials
"ON" has received airplay on college and commercial radio stations in the NY/NJ and Boston areas. Recently, his song "I Know What I Know" was in the Top-50 on broadbandtalentnet.com(Billboard), and featured in an ESPN sports presentation. In addition, he placed a song called "Somewhere In Your Soul" on a TV show called "Beyond Chance" on the Lifetime Network hosted by Melissa Etheridge and in the feature film "Hook, Line & Sinker", and "The Cruelest Fate" in an independent short film, "Perceptions".

"One of the best singer/songwriters to appear on the indie scene in recent years... With songs written and performed in the style of top 40 rock, the musical style will remind you of The Beatles and U2. However, there is not a hint of replication in the words, music or theme of these extremely well-written tunes. ...This kind of songwriter doesn't come along too often." -Written by Tom Yanno, for Musicians Realm

"Gentle guitars and soft percussion rhythms bubble softly underneath Veer's flawless vocals that do nothing short of taking flight. -Impact Press

"Joi Veer presents a familiar style of pop/rock with a certain distinctiveness that is very refreshing. Joi's vocals give his music that distinctive quality that is very much enjoyable. The music is very well written, and contains attractive poppish hooks with a catchiness that many should fine very appealing..." -Michael Allison, theglobalmuse.com

Artist Profile
Joi has many musical influences, from early favorites such as Peter Gabriel, Graham Parker, U2, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, John Lennon, Petula Clark and James Taylor to the more recent brilliance of Alanis Morissette, Goo Goo Dolls, Pearl Jam, Live, Soundgarden, Jeff Buckley and Coldplay.

Inspired by brainstorming with keyboardist Larry Oakes (Foreigner, Bad Company), Joi went to London, in 1988, to explore the musical dynamics of the rock scene where he met renowned producer Alan Winstanley (Madness). After generating interest from a CBS affiliated record label (Aegis), he began writing with his former session guitarist, Ken Gorman (Keith Stewart, MCA) and together, they recorded and published several songs. Two more songs were published from a co-writing venture in 1993 with keyboardist John Novak spinning off three music videos which aired in heavy rotation on several rock video television programs on Manhattan Cable. This marked the end of his "keyboard driven" phase.

Joi Veer's new CD entitled "ON" features the rock rhythms of drummers Steve Holley (McCartney & Wings, Joe Cocker) & Shawn Pelton (Sh Colvin, Saturday Night Live), as well as bassists Jeff Allen (Duncan Sheik ) & Mark Egan (Joan Osborne/Marc Cohn). Also contributing were engineers Steve Addabbo (Suzanne Vega, Shelter Island Sound) and Pat Dillet (They Might Be Giants).
